This Thursday the Colorado State Land Board (SLB) will be voting on whether to renew Mt. Princeton Geothermal’s lease on State Trust Land in southern Maxwell Park in Chaffee County.
SLB staff recommended the board renew the lease for 5 years, and allow MPG to start drilling test wells on the Maxwell Park lease as soon as possible. The staff’s proposal is included in the June 12 Board packet, starting on page 16.
We are asking that they not renew the lease (indefinitely if possible), or at least delay the decision until after the State Trust Lands Conservation & Recreation Work Group (see House Bill HB 25-1332 bill here) has a chance to review the SLB lands. For more info on this bill, see the Colorado Sun article here, which references and includes an image of the Mount Princeton site.
We need as many people as possible to attend the meeting and speak and/or submit letters voicing your opposition to the test drilling in Maxwell Park.
Submitting comments and signing up to speak at the meeting must be submitted by noon on June 9, 2025, here (same form).
You may attend the meeting in person at the State Land Board office, 1127 Sherman Street, Suite 200, Denver, CO 80203, or you can attend it remotely via zoom after signing up on the form.
